But When Will It Come?
Sprouts of inspiration and thoughts of spring
In my posts notebook there are many attempts at titles or themes for articles scattered throughout. In trying to sprout inspiration, I leave behind seeds of ideas that, for one reason or another, didn’t grow right then. Here and there in those pages are partial expoundings of thoughts, a few short paragraphs long. Like sprouts with spindly, long stems, they need time and space to grow. Some won’t make it out in the wide old world, others will thicken their stems, widen their roots, and become strong. Among those scattered seedlings, I found this poem on the longing for spring. And, knowing of the collectively hopeful and cautious stirrings of gardeners who are basking in my area’s early season sunshine, it seemed fitting to share. So, without further ado:
Impatience
I find hints of spring
In the warming here outside
For the moment not so cold
On piney hillsides
Somewhere in some place
There are daffodils a’blooming
And elsewhere there’s still snow
Here, and near
Is a middle-ground
Cloudy, damp
And sometimes chilly-cold
I might wish
For sunny days
And many sweet, sweet flowers
They will come, sometime
They might be here soon enough
But when?
But when?

Spring trilogy—April, May, June—is my favorite! I love March because it is the threshold month.
Some won’t make it out into the wide old world, and some will thicken their stems….
Fantastic writing on thoughts!
