Impressions
A subject we’ve covered before, but this is a fresh take on it in a poem
Impressive first impressions I want them How about you? Just me? No, that couldn’t be Quite true Of course when I meet new people I want them to like me a lot But trouble comes a’knockin’ When myself, I am not Again and again This comes up Around the hill once more I think I’m learning I know I’m learning Yes, this time for sure! Even with people I’ve met and know I sometimes feel the pull To try and ‘help’ them like me Like that could make me whole I hate it When I give in Makes me feel awkward In my skin And in my mind The replaying begins So, mentally reset: I want people to esteem me But some will still reject And their ‘good opinions’ Aren’t worth the price Of my self respect So, be real! I dare me! Some will care, some won’t Spend my life avoiding discomfort? Who has time for that? I know I don’t
