What if?
Turning all that negative thinking on its head
What if I fail? No, wait, what if I succeed? What if I write this now, and love it? What if I finish my book sooner than I thought I would, and end up with a story so much better than I knew I could write? What if people read my work and are amazed, and blessed, and inspired, and grow in God because of it? What if somewhere a girl like me will soon be imagining stories around characters I’ve written? What if I’m better at this than I think I am? What if my curiosity is contagious, and my written jokes make people laugh really hard? What if soon, I’m a published author of the books I’m currently writing in my brain, learning more skills I will love to employ, and selling stories hand over fist? What if I try something new, and it works? And then something else new, and that works too? What if I’m about to be full to bursting with inspiration, filling pages and pages with words while full of incredible joy and commitment and time set aside for what I love to do? What if my stories are a conversation-starter that bring people to Jesus? What if the sci-fi I write becomes extremely well-built, and adventurous, and fun? What if God’s story for me says I get to derive absolute delight from writing and re-reading books that blend literary comedy, space-drama, and unique turns-of-phrase? What if I get to meet some of my writing heroes, but never waver from my own fantastic writing style? What if, by the end of this month, I’ve started this journey? Not too late, but just on time. What if God blesses my writing beyond my wildest dreams, and makes something wonderful come out of it? What if? What if?!?

God is the big WHEN! to go with our what ifs. I wrote recently that the Spirit gifts each of us. We think of our gifting— like writing—dwelling in us. But WHAT IF we flipped that. And we indwell our gifting! That’s when we really shine.
