What Would It Take?
Asking questions about the mountains in front of us that we don’t understand
What would it take to accomplish what I’m thinking of? To take this slice of ambition, and a dint of determined work, and turn this dream into the opposite of fiction? Into something I can hold with my hands, or use in my everyday life? Now, you might argue with me, or I might argue with myself, that not every objective is simple enough to be accomplished with a little elbow grease and a ‘don’t give up’ attitude. But the other half of me argues back that I haven’t fully committed to either greasy elbows or a tough attitude. That it’s a cop-out for me to give up on something before I’ve given it a real chance. What would it take for me to believe this is something I can do? Something I should do, or will do, or must do? What would it take for me to try, and risk failure; finding that preferable to staying here, more frozen than I’d like? What would it take to get beyond the point of trying and worry, hope and hurry and fear, circling over and over again in my brain? I’ve been here before, I recognize it. What can I do to jam a wrench into the spokes of the cycle this time before it goes around and around again, taking me with it? This could be about almost anything significant, like relationships or writing. It could be about a job, a project, or even a skill I’ve yet to learn. But let me turn it around. What mountain is in front of you? What would it take for you to move forward on the things that you’re reaching towards, but are stuck on for some reason? What is it that stands in our way? Answer me that, and maybe something can change. Please Lord Jesus, may it change. “And Jesus answered them, ‘Have faith in God. Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, “Be taken up and thrown into the sea,” and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him.” - Mark 11:22-23 ESV

Really great questions, on many levels. Perhaps picking one small thing that you know you can do, but don't want to, or don't enjoy, and seeing the task to completion. Just one small thing each day. I like lists, and I like checking things off lists, even small tasks. Makes me feel better. I remember the silly question - how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Love the pictures you chose to share! Have a blessed day :)
